Bunker busters boom are designed to penetrate the target that deep underground like military bunkers.

How It Come ?
Almost every missile are used to destroy the target that on surface .when missile launch from base its thruster give it supersonic speed up to mach-4 which maintains it balance to achieve target, when missile arrive on target it impact sensor activate and give single to detonator which cause the blast in warhead.
But every Country’s secret military base are deep underground to not expose the base to other countries satellite. But it very important to find these bunkers and destroy them because in war it becomes a great safe point and became a supply source of Foods , weapons and ammunition to their country.
that why country want a different type that penetrate deep underground and destroy the bunkers that now known as bunker buster booms. In present time many bunker buster booms are made like AGM-130,GBU-57,GBU-15 and GBU-27.
How It made and work ?
To understand how it work let take some example and compare them each other:
BLU-109 Boom
BLU-109 are made in United States of America at 1985s it’s total weight is 2000 LBS and it can penetrate 1.2m ( 5 feet ) goes deep underground .It is often used with guidance kits like the Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) to create precision-guided weapons and then destroy the target . The total cost to make BLU-109 is $25,000 to $84,000 for each J dam kit .

GBU-28 boom
GBU-28 are developed in need to response during operation Desert Storm in 1991and made in United States of America it weight is 5000 LBS and the vertical height of this is 19 feet .it has laser sensor in the front of it and back of sensor has adjustable fins .in center has warhead it weight is 650 pounds which has Tritonal explosives .it is 80% TNT and 20% Aluminum powder and in end has Retractable Fins. Its shell is made up Artillery Barrel and it’s cross- sectional Area is 14.5 inches which around 37cm it Cross sectional area is less because to displaces less material. The total cost to make GBU-28 is $100,000 to $150,000 per unit

GBU-57 Boom
GBU-57 is also known as MOP ( Massive Ordnance Penetrator ). GBU-57 are made in United States of America. The first combat use of the GBU-57 MOP come on 22 June 2025 on Iran’s Fordow Uranium Enrichment Plant and Natanz Nuclear Facility. It is manufactured by Boeing the total weight of it is 30,000 pounds and it’s vertical height is 20.5 feet and cross sectional area is 31.5 inches .its massive weight and less height make it capable to penetrate 200 feet deep inside underground . GBU-57 shell make up of Hardened Ferro-cobalt Alloy . In the front of it is Nose Fuse well which connect with Fuse Conduit which connect with tail fuse which is main detonator .its warhead weight is 5000 LBS. In back it has Grid Fins that control by Fin controller which help it to accurately hit the bunker. the cost come to make GBU-57 is $3.5 million per unit .
